... der Name "Kleier" stammt von der Arbeit mit Kleiboden ab (abgeleitet von "kleben", auch engl."clay": Tonerde), kleien. Ein Kleier war ein Tagelöhner, der Gräben in der Marsch aushob bzw. reinigte.
...aber: möglicherweise ist es aber auch alles ganz anders, denn ich habe dies hier gefunden: "klein [bedeutet], das Getreide zusammenraffen. Vgl. afrapen. Dazu Kleier, der das Getreide zusammenrafft, hindern Meier (Mäher) geit de Kleier." ...hmmm ...wo kommt der Name nun eigentlich wirklich her?

Used hole in artificial leg to park cigar ashes., 1900 census, Merrill, Lincoln, WI, 60,24,71 b. mar. 1887, Wisc., acc. to Lloyd Teske, the only one of the siblings who did not speak German; did not speak about the Teske family, though his wife knew a bit about them obit of sister Ida, 1952, has him living in Merrill shortly after marriage, had a butcher shop of his own; prob. financed by father-in-law Billy S mith, had to give up store in early 1940's due to competition from supermarkets; then ran meat dept. for a couple of supermarkets, retiring in 1952 after wife's death, lived w/daughter Ela ine in Merrill; spent winters in CA with Jack, & Margaret; in spring would go to Portland to see Lloyd & brother Charlie in Vancouver; then to Boise to see Al, & back to Merrill., died 8 oct 1967, 1st birthday of youngest granddaughter Liesl.
